The original Mordue Brewery was situated on Wallsend village green and run by Joseph Mordue, a brewer of distinction in the 19th Century.
Their range includes Geordie classics like ‘Workie Ticket’ and ‘Radgie Gadgie’ – but the brewery is always looking forward and recently produced an ale in praise of North East alternative rock band Maximo Park.
Mordue’s beers are hugely popular at glug… and we look forward to seeing more beers from them and their alter-ego experimental range of ‘Panda Frog Brewery’ beers.
What we sell at mmm…
Workie Ticket – a tasty, complex beer with malt and hops throughout and a long, satisfying bitter finish. Well worthy of the title ‘Champion Beer of Britain’ award 1997.
Note: According to the Urban Dictionary a ‘Workie Ticket’ is pushing ones luck. Pulling a fast one. Causing trouble – sometimes in a mischevious way, sometimes in an agressive way.
Radgie Gadgie – a strong, easy drinking northern ale, with balanced hops, fruit and malt and a long, lingering finish. Champion Strong Bitter of Britain award 1998.
Note: According to the Urban Dictionary a ‘Radgie Gadgie’ is an angry person, typically an old man. Radgie gadgies are most often angry at the shenanigans of children and teenagers.
India Pale Ale (IPA) – this IPA is brewed with Horizon hops from the USA giving the beer a dry bitterness, reminiscent of a traditional IPA of yesteryear. Strong Bitter Silver Medal GGBF 2004.
Northumbrian Blonde – a new Blonde ale. Fresh and zesty with a hoppy lemon and grapefruit aroma. Blonde (drinkers) have more fun!
Maximo No5 – Mordue Brewery and Newcastle-based band Maximo Park worked together to produce a new beer, Maximo No5, to promote the band’s 5th album “Too much Information”.
Maximo No5 is an American Amber Ale, at 5% abv, brewed with six different hop varieties, which gives it a fantastic flavour, grapefruit, orange and lychee, come through on the palate.
Panda Frog Makarov – a brown ale laced with a rich, nutty, smoky aroma.
