Wylam Brewery Jakehead IPA tasting at glug…

We were delighted to get Ben and Chris from Wylam Brewery along to glug… for a tasting of the very limited Jakehead IPA.

Jakehead tasting
The bottle-conditioned ale was limited to just 250 bottles – and we were lucky enough to secure just short of 50 of the hand-labelled bottles.

On the stroke of 12 noon we began tasting the American style strong IPA, which has massive citrus and tropical fruit hits from a blend of four American hybrid hop varieties.

An hour and a half later every bottle had gone to delighted glug… beer lovers.

Thanks to Ben and Chris from Wylam for chatting so enthusiastically to all of our customers.

Looking forward to more tastings ahead at glug… over the coming months.

More about Wylam Brewery
Wylam Brewery was established in May 2000 by Robin Leighton (Dec’d) and John Boyle who shared a mutual passion for real ale, quality product, and a desire to see proper beer served in their local ale house.

Following three months of experimentation, and a lot of market research at the bar of said local ale house, their first cask of Landlord’s Choice was produced in August 2000.

The Brewery grew rapidly on the strength and quality of its ales, winning many awards at festivals around the UK.

In 2006 the Brewery outgrew the existing 1,000L plant and relocated to bespoke premises at Heddon on the Wall (on Hadrian’s Wall).

The team brought a new 3,500L plant on stream in August of that year.

Following the expansion, the brewery remained at the cutting edge of the craft beer movement in the North East of England, expanding into bottling and kegging whilst maintaining the development of some of the regions favourite real ales.
